We make those four free games, so this is not a neutral list. Every fact about the paid games comes from its official store or publisher page, linked at the end.

Stray

You are a stray cat lost in a neon-lit city, solving its mysteries with a small drone friend called B-12. Stray is made by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, and it came out on 19 July 2022. It is a story-led adventure with exploration, some stealth and plenty of playful, cat-sized interaction with the world. Annapurna lists it on Steam, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Little Kitty, Big City

A curious kitten wakes up lost in a city and has to find the way home. Made and published by Double Dagger Studio and released on 9 May 2024, it is a gentle open-world adventure: help other animals with small missions, collect hats, or just cause trouble. The official site lists PC (Steam), PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and the mobile app stores.

Catlateral Damage

A first-person “destructive cat simulator”: you are a cat on a rampage, knocking as much as you can onto the floor. Manekoware and Fire Hose Games made it, and it came out on Steam on 27 May 2015. Houses are procedurally generated, and Steam lists VR support.

Gato Roboto

A cat in a mech suit explores the alien underworld of a deep-space outpost to rescue a stranded captain. You fight in the armour and step out as a plain cat to squeeze into places the mech cannot reach. It is by doinksoft, published by Devolver Digital, released on 30 May 2019, on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.

Free games where you play as a cat in your browser

All four open in a normal browser tab, on a computer or a phone, and you can start each one without an account.

Bad Cat Daily: be the house cat

Bad Cat Daily on a phone: a grey tabby cat on a rug in a 3D kitchen, a broken mug on the floor, while the cook faces the stove

You are the house cat, with 75 seconds to knock as much as you can off counters, shelves and tables while the human is not looking. When he turns, you let go and freeze. There is a new room every day, one ranked run a day and unlimited practice. Snap one photo and your own cat’s face goes on the 3D cat. Play Bad Cat Daily, or read how to put your cat in a game.

Catnip Heist: a two-cat stealth game

Guide two cats past Kibble Corp’s guard dogs, grab the catnip and free a shelter cat. You swap between the cats: one holds a door open on a pressure plate while the other gets through, and a meow lures a dog off its post. There are 16 levels in two acts. Our Catnip Heist guide covers the controls and every star.

Pink Paw Knight: a tiny knight cat

You play Clem, a tiny knight cat with a pink bow, in a third-person 3D adventure. Clem rescues twelve lost kittens and brings them home to the Rescue House. It is a cosy quest with light cartoon combat, and a gentler Kitten mode if you want softer fights. The kittens carry the names and photos of real cats at Pink Paw, a cat shelter in Kaunas, Lithuania. Play Pink Paw Knight, or read our Pink Paw Knight guide.

Purrsuit: a classic pixel platformer

Inside the free Token Tails game at /game, Purrsuit is a pixel platformer where your cat runs, jumps and dodges traps to reach the flag, grabbing catnip on the way. It has 78 levels plus an endless run. The Purrsuit guide explains each mechanic.

Token Tails makes its games with Pink Paw (Rožinė pėdutė), a cat shelter in Kaunas. Many of the cats you meet in them are real Pink Paw cats. After a Catnip Heist win or a Pink Paw Knight save, you can tap once and Token Tails sends Pink Paw a free treat from its own budget, one per player a day. It costs you nothing. You never need to think about it to enjoy the games, but if you are curious, read how Token Tails works.
