A good charity gift for a cat lover is a donation to a cat shelter in their name, or in their cat’s name. On Moon Rave you can go one step further: name a dancing cat after them, and Pink Paw, a real cat shelter in Kaunas, Lithuania, gets the full amount, with a payout anyone can check.

Here is why a gift like this works, the main ways to give one, and a step-by-step for Moon Rave with wording for the card.

Key takeaways

  • A gift in someone’s name suits people who have everything, and cat lovers who would rather help cats than own another mug.
  • Your options: give at their local shelter, give in memory of a pet, sponsor a pen of cats, or name a cat at Moon Rave.
  • On Moon Rave, $1 adds one named cat to a live dance floor, and Pink Paw gets the full amount.
  • Nobody is notified automatically: you share the link yourself, which makes it a gift you can wrap in a message.

Why give a donation instead of a thing

Cat lovers tend to own plenty of cat-themed things already. A gift to a shelter is different: it says “I know what you care about”, and it helps cats who are still waiting for a home.

It also suits the moments when a present feels wrong: a friend whose cat has died, a colleague leaving, someone far away. And it takes no shipping, so it is never late.

Ways to give in someone’s name

At their local shelter. If the person has a favourite local rescue, that is often the most personal choice. Many shelters let you add a dedication or send a note when you give; check the shelter’s own donation page or ask them. Before you give, it is worth a quick check that the rescue is well run: see how to tell if an animal rescue is legit.

In memory of a pet. Larger charities often have a memorial option. The RSPCA’s Donate In Memory page, for example, covers gifts in memory of a person and of a pet, including a tribute page “to share precious memories”.

A sponsorship. A monthly sponsorship of a pen of shelter cats makes a gift that keeps going, with updates the person can enjoy. Cats Protection, for one, says its sponsorship can be given as a gift. Our guide to sponsoring a cat online explains how the schemes work.

A named cat at Moon Rave. A small, playful gift you can give in two minutes from anywhere, explained below.

Name a cat at Moon Rave, step by step

Moon Rave is a live 3D dance floor under a green moon, made by Token Tails for Pink Paw. For each $1 paid out to Pink Paw through it, one more cat joins the floor.

  1. Open Moon Rave and tap Add a cat.
  2. Pick $1 (1 cat), $5 (5 cats), or $10+ for a custom whole-dollar amount.
  3. Name the cats after the person, or after their cat. Each name can be up to 16 characters. Naming is optional.
  4. Add an X handle if you want a public shout-out (optional; it is shown publicly with your cats). For a gift, you may prefer to leave it empty.
  5. Pay by card or in USDC on Arc. Your cats drop onto the floor and the DJ shouts out their names.

Where the money goes. By card, Token Tails pays the full amount out to Pink Paw on-chain; a pre-ticked box adds the card fee on top, and if you untick it Token Tails absorbs the fee. Pink Paw gets the full amount either way. In USDC, the gift goes from your wallet through the open-source Pink Paw split to the shelter’s wallet in the same transaction.

Moon Rave gifts are not tax-deductible donations. For the full details, read how Moon Rave works.

Make it a card

Because nothing is sent to the person automatically, the gift is in your hands. Write a card, a message or an email, and add the link.

Some wording you can borrow:

  • “A cat is dancing in your name for Pink Paw, a cat shelter in Lithuania. Look for her on the Moon Rave.”
  • “I named a cat after Pepper. She is on the dance floor tonight, and I gave a dollar to shelter cats in her name.”
  • “For the person who loves every cat they meet: five cats on the Moon Rave, named after you, and five dollars for Pink Paw.”

On the rave, Find my cat takes the payout’s transaction hash or a cat number like #7 and flies the camera to that cat. With a cat in view, Share copies a link to the rave, or opens your phone’s share menu, so you can send it with your message.

How they can check it arrived

A gift with a receipt anyone can open is part of the charm:

  • After paying, your order moves from Paid to On-chain, with a View payout link to the transaction on the Arc explorer. Put that link in your card.
  • The payout also appears on the public shelter payouts page, next to every other payout to Pink Paw. Rave payouts carry a memo starting with tt:rave:.
  • Want to check every detail? Our guide to verifying a crypto donation walks through one payout from start to finish.

The payout shows the amount and the shelter, not the cat’s name: names live on the dance floor, not on-chain.

A gentle gift in memory of a cat

When someone’s cat has died, a shelter gift can say what is hard to say out loud: that their cat mattered, and that the love continues somewhere.

Keep it simple. Name a cat after theirs, and write a short line such as “In memory of Luna, who ruled the sofa. Her name is dancing for cats who still need a home.” Let them open it when they are ready, and do not expect a reply.

If you would rather give through a registered charity, an in-memory gift like the RSPCA’s above is a good route, and you can still name a cat on the rave as a small extra.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give to a cat shelter in memory of a pet?

Yes. Many charities have an in-memory option, for example the RSPCA's Donate In Memory page, which includes tribute pages for pets. On Moon Rave you can name a cat after the pet you are remembering.

Will the person get a notification about my gift?

Not from Moon Rave. It stores no email address and sends no automatic notice to anyone. Share the link yourself, with a message or a card.

Can I give anonymously?

Yes. Naming the cats and adding an X handle are both optional on Moon Rave. If you leave them empty, the rave picks a cat name and shows no handle.

Is a Moon Rave gift tax-deductible?

No. Moon Rave gifts are not tax-deductible donations, and Token Tails does not issue charity tax receipts. If that matters, give through a registered charity in your country.
